First Impressions: Vampires, Banshees and Angels

*This sampler has been out for quite some time now and unfortunately, isn't available for download anymore.

I was looking around my Netgalley profile and I must admit the growing pile of To-be-read-and-reviewed books have resulted to procrastination and neglecting other titles. Ah, starts repeating mantra: time management, time management. If only it was easy as saying it! Anyways, I found this Young Adult Paranormal sampler that's been long overdue for attention.

I remember requesting for this because the 4 books in the sampler, are titles I must admit I've been looking at to add to my "Currently reading" shelf.

With time being the essence, it's helpful to have excerpts before going out to buy a book to decide if it's worth it or to leave it.

Here are my initial thoughts of Dark Kiss, The Girl In The Steel Corset, The Immortal Rules & My Soul To Take:

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
 (Publication Date: 4/24/2012)
It did start out at page 26 for me, so I don't know what went on before those. But right there then, I was sucked into Allie Sekemoto's action-packed life. Did I just read only 4 chapters because it feels like more... but I'm still left with wanting! This almost feels like a cliffhanger. You really get a feel of their dystopian paranormal world. It's almost like DeJaVu from reading The Hunger Games! What with the sectors and all. Allie was a woman taking care of her own and I love that, but you also see the glimpses of her compassionate character. Will I continue? Hell yes!

Dark Kiss by Michelle Rowan (Publication Date: 5/29/2012) Can I just say that the cover model is gorgeous? He looks like Alex Pettyfer. Anyways, the starting scene is yet from another underage club. Yes, it's a place to mingle and all but dang girl, why throw yourself at someone like that?I wouldn't necessarily say this part of the book I've read so far really keyed up my interest but there is mystery to be told. Will I continue? Maybe.

The Girl In The Steel Corset by Kady Cross (Publication Date: 5/24/2011)
I dont have much experience with steampunk so I pretty much expected a Jane Austen-esque story with a twist but boy, was I wrong. This actually had a sense of modernity through it's technology and that was far from what I know of how Pride and Prejudice was! Corsets and dresses, don't let it fool you. Finley is one kick-ass girl. From the beginning, she lets you see the daredevil that's taunting her to do things that are dangerous. Can't say much for her and Griffin right now but what he did for her was pretty sweet. He held a mystery of his own as much as Finley did. Will I continue? It's very likely.

My Soul To Take by Rachel Vincent (Publication Date: 8/1/2009)
The story starts out as Kaylee and the girls went out for a night at a club. That reminded me of the City of Bones opening. You immediately sense Kaylee's character being a little bit closed off. Then hot, gorgeous Nash was thrown into the story and became the knight in shining armor when Kaylee suffered one of her "panic attacks" from seeing a strawberry blonde haired girl. Now, the story gets interesting.
Will I continues? Yes!
